(McAllen, Texas)-Forty-eight teams played at the McAllen Nikki Rowe, McAllen HS, and McAllen Memorial gymnasiums on Thursday to tip-off the annual McHi Girls Border Bash Basketball Tournament. In the stands was former McAllen HS girls basketball coach and RGV Hall of Fame basketball coach, Teresa Casso, who was the originator of the tournament when she coached the McAllen Lady Bulldogs. 

The Edinburg Lady Bobcats easily defeated Santa Rosa 58-15 while McAllen Memorial opened with a 52-17 win over Brownsville Rivera 52-17, and Weslaco knocked off Mercedes 62-24. All 48 teams played pool-play in 16 pool brackets and tournament play will begin today with finals to end on Saturday. (HSSMImages/David A. Amador)
