(La Villa, Texas)-The La Villa Cardinals (6-2, 2-0) blanked the Santa Maria Cougars 46-0 to remain in first place in District 16-2A Division I. The Cougars (3-5, 0-3) fell behind early in the first half trailing 32-0. Cardinal quarterback Brandon Felix spotted WR Keanu Escobar on a post route for a 15-yard touchdown. A few plays later, Felix went to Escobar again, this time for a 70-yard sprint down the sidelines for another score to make it 13-0 over the Cougars. Felix decided to drum up a score of his own with a 71-yard touchdown run to give the Cards a comfortable 26-0 lead. The Cardinals Felix ended the night with three touchdown passes for 159 yards. The Cardinals defense finished the night with four interceptions and caused fumble and recovery. Cardinal DB/LB Jacob Espericueta intercepted two passes and four tackles to lead the Cardinals.

The Cardinals will play host to Rivera Kaufer (1-3, 0-2) on Friday night while Santa Maria will meet Kaufer on November 5th for the final playoff spot.
