(Harlingen, Texas)-After being held to just three points last week, the Harlingen Cardinals (2-1) unleashed their offense against Laredo United (0-3), winning 38-14 on Friday night at Boggus Stadium. The defending 32-6A champions, Cardinals ends their non-district schedule and will resume play on September 24th at home against Brownsville Rivera (2-1) in their District 32-6A opener.
It was all defense with senior linebacker, Nathan Huerta having a great night as he sacked the Longhorns 3 1/2 times while Cardinal QB Abel Tamez found Iziah Bell for a 70-yard touchdown pass. Bell scored twice. The Cards led 21-0 at the half. The score was set up by an interception by Cardinal DB Ray Castillo.
The Longhorns from District 30-6A, coached by David Sanchez are now 0-3 with losses to Pflugerville (33-14), SA Harlan (34-33), and Harlingen (38-14). The Cardinals lost to SA Stevens in the Class 6A Area Championships last season.
