(Edinburg, Texas)-For the third week in a row, the Edinburg Bobcats (3-2, 3-0) has done the unthinkable by defeating the Mission (3-2, 2-1) Eagles 34-14 on Thursday night at Richard R. Flores Stadium. “We are going to enjoy this win tonight,” said first-year head coach, Rene Guzman. “This was a big win for our program tonight and I want to give credit to our team, our coaches, and this Bobcat community.”
Bobcat quarterback Roland Abrego took charge early on and finished the night with 134 yards rushing and found the endzone twice. He also passed for 117 yards, including a 31-yard pass to score WR Jacob Gonzales.
“Our defense played great. Our coaches on defense did an outstanding job by preparing our players,” says Guzman. The Bobcats defense came into the game allowing nine points scored in two games in District 31-6A and on Thursday night, the Bobcats stopped Mission, allowing 230 total yards on offense and just 14 points.
The Bobcats will return to Richard R. Flores stadium next Friday night in a showdown with Edinburg Vela High School (4-0, 2-0) for a possible showdown for first place in 31-6A. The Sabercats play Edinburg North (2-2, 1-1) tonight. “We will get ready for the Sabercats starting tomorrow,” says Guzman. “It’s going to be a good one.”
