(Pharr, Tx)-The Valley View High School Tigers are back in 2021 after canceling their 2020 season due to COVID-19 pandemic in South Texas. “It took a toll on our football program. Right now we are trying to put a football team together,” says VV head coach, Elifonso Esquivel. It also took a toll on Esquivel as he resigned last week. “I wish the team gppd luck but, I’m stepping down,” says Esquivel.
The Tigers finished 1-5 in District 16-5A DII in 2019 and now, must face the task of getting back on the win column. Players to watch are OL Marco Hernandez (6’0 250lbs), WR Jose Casillas, QB Raul Ramirez (5’10 160lbs), RB Brandon Hinojosa (5’8 165lbs), and WR Marcelo Pena. The Tigers will open their 2021 season at Hidalgo on August 27th followed by another non-district game against Port Isabel at Tiger Stadium on September 3rd. The Tigers kicks off its District 16-5A DII schedule at home against Mission Veterans on September 10th.
