(Roma, Tx)-The last time the Roma High School Gladiators finished at .500 was back in 2016 at 5-5.
Since then, the Gladiators have seen plenty of windfarms coming up throughout the mesquite hills, generating the power needed. Hopefully, this growth of generated power will give the Gladiators more fire power in 2021.
The Gladiators have fallen on tough times going 1-9, 3-7, 2-8, and 0-3 for the past four years.
The Gladiators will open its season against longtime rivals, Rio Grande City at Joe R. Sanchez Stadium followed by another non-district match up against Economedes on September 3rd at home before opening district play against PSJA Southwest on Thursday night, Sept. 9th.
Players to watch are DE Reynaldo Gonzalez (6’0 180lbs), DB Alejandro Perez (5’11 165lbs), TE Rey Hovey (6’0 200lbs), LB Gabriel Garcia (6’0 205lbs), and RB Issac Lorenzo (5’6 135lbs).
Head coach Francisco Villanueva would love to get on the winning track early on and he would love to make a playoff run in 2021. The Gladiators are talented and playing as team will be the key this season District 16-5A DII.
