(McAllen, Texas)-The McAllen Bulldogs will be the team to watch in 2021. Why? The Bulldogs are unpredictable. The big question will be, can the Bulldogs qualify for the UIL State 5A Division I playoffs in 2021? The last time a McAllen High School football team made the playoffs was in 2017, losing 52-21 to Eagle Pass in Class 6A. It was their best finish at 4-7. Since then, the Bulldogs have finished 2-8, 3-7, and 2-4. Under second-year head coach, Patrick Shelby, the Bulldogs have won just five games.

The Bulldogs returns quarterback Hunter Curl, who enters this season with 1,207 yards passing and 466 yards rushing. He will be the go-to-player in 2021. Other players to watch will be LB/RB Weston Guzman, DB Holden Hood, DB Thomas Alaniz, and LB Steven Garza.

The Bulldogs lost a nucleus of starters on defense and offense, especially at the line. In the backfield, Guzman could see action at running back. The last time the Bulldogs had a 1,000 yard running back was in 2017 with Roy Gutierrez (1,160 yards).
