(Lyford, Tx)-In a small community surrounded by plenty of wind farms, the Lyford Bulldogs will be the team to watch in District 16-3A Division I with new head coach Gerardo Jauregui. The Bulldogs finished as the University Interscholastric League’s Class 3A Division I Area finalists, losing to Llano 49-16.
Lyford will be talented at key positions. Quarterback Osmar Martinez (6’0 175lbs junior) gets his first start after being the play maker and savior of Bulldog football team for the past two seasons. As a freshmen, Martinez stepped in after then-injured QB Caleb Klostermann to lead the Bulldogs to the playoffs in 2019. He also played QB in 2020, completing 17-of-31 passes for 280 yards. Players to watch are returning 3A All-State selection, WR Mark Marroquin, RB Sergio Rosas.
The Bulldogs will be ready with new head coach Jauregui while the Red Ants could face tough times with limited players coming out for the football program after declining to play in 2020 due to the pandemic. The Red Ants will open District 16-3A Division I district play at home against CC London on October 8th.
